The Zahrbock Funeral Home announces the death of 68 year old Dewayne Ahl of Madison, MN who passed away at his home on April 3, 2017. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. , Monday, April 10 at St. Michael’s Catholic Church. Father Brian Oestreich will officiate at the service. Burial will be at St. Aloysius Catholic Cemetery of Olivia, Minnesota. Visitation will be Sunday, April 9, 2017 from 1:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. at the Zahrbock Chapel and a public prayer service at 7:00 p.m. Visitation will continue before the services on Monday at the church.Dewayne Howard Ahl was born on December 2, 1948, in Willmar, MN to Howard & Beatrice (Cully) Ahl. Dewayne was baptized into the Catholic Faith at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Bird Island, MN. Dewayne graduated from Bird Island - Lake Lillian High School in 1967. He enlisted in the U.S. Army December 5, 1967, serving in Vietnam with 1st Cavalry Division as an aircraft electrician from July 1968 - July 1969. He then was stationed in Germany from Sept. 1969 - Nov 1970. Dewayne was Honorably discharged on November 26, 1970 with the rank of SP5. During his service Dewayne received the Vietnam Campaign Medal, Two Overseas Bars, Marksman M-14, Expert M-16, National Defense Service Medal and the Vietnam Service Medal. Dewayne was a life long member of the VFW in Litchfield, Minnesota and the American Legion in Kerkhoven, Minnesota. Dewayne was united in marriage to Michele Dobmeier on June 3, 1971 at St. Phillips Catholic Church in Litchfield, Minnesota. To this union five children were born. In 1971, Dewayne began working for Fairway Construction. On April 1, 1974, he began working for Harold Petersen Farms of Murdock, Minnesota, where he remained for 42 years and until his retirement in 2015. Dewayne’s hobbies included bowling, hunting, fishing and stock car racing. He was an avid NASCAR fan, including a trip for Dewayne and Michele to the Las Vegas Motor Speedway to take in a NASCAR race. Dewayne loved the time he spent in Alexandria at their lake cabin, teaching every child and adult how to fish “the right way”. The cabin became Dewayne and Michele’s home away from home. Dewayne is survived by his wife of 45 years Michele; children; Anthony (Anna Peterson) Ahl of Atwater, Minnesota, Shannon (Alvin) Wieber of Marietta, MN, Colleen (Chad Murphy) Bosch of Madison, MN; Jason (Nina Oslund) of Willmar, MN and Timothy (Sara Saldana) of Madison, Minnesota; 24 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren and one more due in June. Brothers Richard (Janice) Ahl of Litchfield, Minnesota, David Sr. (Jean) Ahl of Atwater, Minnesota, sisters Francis (Marcus) Johnson of Litchfield, Minnesota and Donna (Randy) Mogenson of Waverly, Minnesota. Dewayne was preceded in death by his parents Howard and Beatrice Ahl, his father and mother-in-laws Anthony and Marian Dobmeier, his sister Mary (Ike) Carlson and his sister-in- law Mary Schwartz. Blessed be his memory. Dewayne Ahl is survived by his wife Michele of Madison, children; Anthony (Anna) Ahl of Atwater, MN, Shannon (Alvin) Wieber of Marietta, MN, Colleen (Chad) Bosch of Madison, MN, Jason (Nina) Ahl of Willmar, MN, Timothy (Sara) Ahl of Madison, MN; 21 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren. Two brothers; Richard (Janice) Ahl of Litchfield, MN and David (Jean) Ahl of Atwater, MN; two sisters; Frances (Marcus) Johnson of Litchfield, MN and Donna (Randy) Mogenson of Waverly, MN.
