Obituary for Erma Ovidia Knorr

The Zahrbock Funeral Home of Madison announces the death of 95 year old Erma Knorr of Madison who passed away on Thursday, February 22, 2018 at the Madison Lutheran Home.
Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m., Wednesday, February 28, 2018 at Garfield Lutheran Church of rural Madison. Rev. Bruce Bringle will officiate at the service. Burial will be in Garfield Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 12:00 - 5:00 p.m., Tuesday, February 27, 2018 at the Zahrbock Funeral Home Chapel and will continue before the services on Wednesday at the church.
All Legion and VFW Auxiliary members are asked to meet at the church to form an honor guard.
Erma Ovidia Nelson was born to parents Olai and Maggie (Nash) Nelson on December 5, 1922 at her home farm south of Dawson. Her Grandma Emma Nelson was the mid-wife. She and her family attended the Swedish Mission Church SW of Dawson where she was baptized as a child and confirmed on May 30, 1937. As a child they lived on a farm, had milk cows, horse drawn machinery, raised wheat, oats, alfalfa and corn. She attended country school at District 25 southwest of Dawson. She completed the 9th grade in Dawson, when her mother passed away in 1938 she worked and stayed home to help care for her younger brother Leroy. On July 7, 1940, she married Wilfred (Duffy) Knorr at Our Saviors Lutheran Parsonage in Dawson. They lived in Dawson until 1943. While there Erma worked at the Land O’Lakes Café. They next moved to Madison. in 1949, they bought the family farm and moved there to live. They joined the Garfield Lutheran Church. They lived on the farm for many years, farming, raising milk cows, hogs, and chickens. In the early 70’s they moved to Marietta until retirement, then moving to Madison. Erma was a stay at home mom, until the kids had graduated, then worked at the clothing store in Madison and at Oftedahl drug until retirement. Erma loved flowers, enjoyed playing cards, going to the lake fishing, traveling, sewing, church activities and spending time with her family.
Left to cherish her memory are daughter Lauralee Skallerud & Life Partner Stanley Lien, of Louisburg son Richard (Kathy) Knorr of Minnetonka, six grandchildren; 10 great grand-children, one great great granddaughter and two sisters in law; several nieces and nephews.
Greeting her in Heaven are her parents, her husband Duffy, son Larry, four brothers, son-in-law Buster, grandson in-law Jason and several sisters-in-law, along with a host of other relatives and friends.
