The Zahrbock Funeral Home announces the death of 86 year old Harriet Nygard of the Madison Lutheran Home who passed away on Thursday, April 13, 2017 at the Madison Lutheran Home. Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m., Monday, April 17, 2017 at Faith Lutheran Church. Rev. Kathleen Soldwisch will officiate at the service. Burial will be in Hegre Cemetery. Visitation will be after 5:00 p.m., Sunday, April 16, 2017 at the Madison Lutheran Home Chapel and with a prayer service at 7:00 p.m. Visitation will continue at the church on Monday before the services. Harriet Nygard passed away April 13, 2017 at the Madison Lutheran Home and was surrounded by her family. Harriet Dorothy Nygard (Emde) was born on October 2, 1930, in her parents home, Shibble Township north of Appleton, MN. Her parents were Frederick and Martha (Buhrn) Emde. She was baptized, confirmed and married at Shibble Lutheran Church. Harriet lost her father, aunt and grandfather in a tragic car accident at age 10. The family of nine continued to work the family farm. Harriet attended and graduated from Appleton High School in 1948. She married Philip Nygard on August 7, 1948. They had five children. Gary (Carol) Nygard, Marcia (John) Kells, Mark who died at 3 days old, Maureen (John) Hauck and Carolyn (Dave) Linde. Harriet and Philip would have celebrated 69 years of marriage on August 7, 2017. Harriet was an active member of Borgund Lutheran Church, rural Madison, original member of the Happy-Go-Lucky Sewing Club, golfed, bowled, water skied and had huge flower and vegetable gardens. She was a devoted mother who was fully engaged in her children’s, grandchildren’s and great-grandchildren’s lives. Harriet and Philip had a winter home in Texas for 26 years. They traveled extensively visiting all 50 states, Europe, New Zealand, Australia, Panama, South America and the Figi Islands. Harriet is survived by her husband Philip; her four children, 9 grandchildren; Mike ( Kelly) Nygard, Brock (Patty) Nygard, Mitchell Kells, Jarred (Holly) Kells, Jake (Emily) Hauck, Samuel (Jenni) Hauck, Melissa Hauck, Sarah (Linde) Rush, and Dan (Jessi) Linde. Also 15 great-grandchildren; Philip and Kyra Nygard, Alexis, Eric and Brody Nygard, Alice and Isabelle Kells, Annika and Elsie Hauck, Noah Hauck, Robert and Andrew Rush and Amelia, Oliver and Clara Linde; brother, Ervin Emde, sister, Verna Kojetin and sister-in-law Gladys Nygard. Harriet was preceded in death by her parents, son Mark (in infancy), grandson Eric Nygard, and siblings Willard (in infancy) Willard Emde, Lorraine Smith, Fred Emde, Lester Emde and Eleanore Dunsworth. Harriet will be very missed by her loving husband, her family and many in the community. Blessed be her memory.
