Obituary for Ihla Delores Thomson

The Zahrbock Funeral Home of Madison announces the death of 90 year old Ihla Thomson of Madison formerly of Louisburg, who passed away on Monday, January 1, 2018. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, January 6, 2018 at Faith Lutheran Church in Madison. Rev. Elan Hacker will officiate at the service. The Thomson family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Friday, January 5, 2017 at the Zahrbock Funeral Home Chapel. A prayer service will be at 7:00 p.m., Friday, January 5, 2018 also at the Zahrbock Chapel.
Visitation will continue before the services on Saturday, January 6, 2018 at the church.
Funeral services for Ihla Thomson were held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, January 6, 2018 at Faith Lutheran Church, Madison, Minnesota. Pastor Elan Hacker officiated at the service. Special music was provided by
Mary Williamson, organist and Harlan Weise, soloist. Active pall bearers were Ihla’s grandchildren.

Ihla Delores Borstad was born on December 2, 1927 at the family farm in rural Louisburg to parents Obert and Gusta (Johnson) Borstad. She was baptized and confirmed at Hegre Lutheran Church of rural Madison. Ihla attended school first in Madison and then in Appleton and graduated in 1946. After graduation, she worked as a waitress and nurses aid. She met Charles at a dance in Louisburg. They were married on October 9, 1948 at Minnesota Valley Lutheran Church. To this union three children were born. After their marriage, Ihla and Charles farmed south of Bellingham and then they moved the family to a farm south of Louisburg. In 1986, they moved into Louisburg. They enjoyed wintering 17 years in Texas.
In life, she enjoyed being with her family and friends, dancing, golf, playing cards, bowling, traveling, cleaning house, and visiting.
Death came to Ihla on January 1, 2018 at the Madison Lutheran Home. She had reached the age of 90 years and 29 days.
Ihla is survived by her three children; Rebecca (Michael) May of Aitkin, MN, Rachael Galarneau of Chanhassen, MN and Dennis (Janell) Thomson of Louisburg, MN; 8 grandchildren; Kimberly (Clint) DeMenge; Elizabeth (Tom) Kabus, Stephen (Hannah) May, Travis Galarneau, Jenna (Adan) Galarneau, Alexis (Justin) Falness, Brady Thomson, Cody (Laura) Thomson and step-grandchild (Rachel (Matt) Mallory); 9 great-grandchildren, and 2 step-great grandsons. She is also survived by her sister Leatrice Wagner of Minnetonka, MN, sisters-in-law Ella Thomson of Bellingham, Lois Thomson of Madison, Donna Borstad of Appleton, brother-in-law Maynard Thomson of Wolverton, MN and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents Obert and Gusta, her husband Charles, sisters Jeanette Rheingans, Norma Fordham, brother Virgil Borstad, step grandson, Richard Galarneau III, sisters-in-law Edith Thomson, Kerrine Thomson, brothers-in-law Lawrence Thomson, Earl Thomson, Donald Thomson, Ray Fordham and Douglas Rheingans
