Obituary for Leonard Harold Wittnebel

The Zahrbock Funeral Home of Madison announces the death of 90 year old Leonard Wittnebel of Ortonville formerly of rural Bellingham who passed away on Wednesday, July 11, 2018 at a Ortonville Care Center.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, July 16, 2018 at 10:30 a.m. in St. John’s Lutheran Church in Madison, MN. Visitation will be Sunday, July 15, 2018 afternoon with a Public Prayer Service Sunday evening at 7:00 p.m. in the Chapel of the Zahrbock Chapel in Madison. Visitation will continue Monday morning before services in the church.
The concluding service and burial will take place in St. John’s Cemetery in Madison.
Leonard Harold Wittnebel was born on June 26, 1928 to parents Richard and Hattie (Boehnke) Wittnebel at his family home farm of rural Bellingham. He was baptized on July 22, 1928 at Zion Lutheran Church of Arena Township. He was confirmed on June 14, 1942 also at Zion Lutheran Church by Rev. Fred
Holmstetter. His confirmation verse was “I am not ashamed of the Gospel of Christ; for it is the power of God unto salvation to everyone that believeth.” Romans 1:16.
He attended country school near his home. He also helped his father farm.
Leonard and Carol Tilbury were married on September 25, 1951 in St. John’s Lutheran Church, Madison, Minnesota. To this union two children were born.
Leonard joined the United States Army on September 17, 1952. He served his country in Korea for over a year. He was
Honorably discharge in September, 1954.
Leonard and Carol farmed for many years and raised their children.
In life, Leonard enjoyed being with his family and going to their school activities.
He loved being with his favorite dog, Oscar, fishing, gardening and helping Randy on the farm.
Death came to Leonard on July 10, 2018. He had reached the age of 90 years and 15 days.
He is survived by his wife Carol of nearly 67 years, his daughter Cheryl Wittnebel of Ortonville and son Randy (Dianne) Wittnebel of Bellingham, two grandchildren Justin (Misty) Wittnebel of Ortonville and Heidi Wittnebel and Shane Freyholtz of Lyons, SD and six great-grandchildren Aubree, Justice, Mya, Coby, Brayden and Ben, his sister Doris Gruenenwald of Dawson and many nieces and nephew.
He was preceded in death by his parents Richard and Hattie, brothers Lester and Gerhard Wittnebel.
Blessed be his memory.
All Veterans are asked to meet at the church to form an Honor Guard at the Cemetery.
