Obituary for Mavis Ardett Bjornson

The Zahrbock Funeral Home announces the death of 93 year old Mavis Bjornson formerly of Madison who passed away on May 22, 2018 at a Granite Falls Health Care Center in Granite Falls, MN.
Funeral services will be at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, May 26, 2018 at Garfield Lutheran Church of rural Madison. Rev. Bruce Bringle will officiate at the service. Burial will be in Garfield Lutheran Cemetery.
Visitation will be one hour before the services on Saturday at the church. There will be no visitation at the funeral home.
Mavis Ardett Cech was born on May 1, 1925 to parents, Joseph and Anna (Doktor) Cech in rural Hendricks, Minnesota. She was baptized and confirmed at Hansonville Lutheran Church, Hendricks, Minnesota.
After moving to Canby in 1939, she and her parents became members of St. Stephen’s Lutheran Church, Canby, MN. She graduated from Canby High School in 1942. She was then employed by the National Citizens Bank of Canby for one year before moving to Ann Arbor, Michigan, where she was employed by the main branch of the Ann Arbor Bank and then the branch on the University of Michigan campus. She returned to Canby in 1945.
Mavis was married to Parnel Bjornson on January 20, 1945 at St. Stephen’s Lutheran Church in Canby. They live, farmed and raised their family on their farm in Garfield Township, Lac qui Parle County for the next 56 years. In 2001, they moved to Madison, Minnesota because of Parnel’s illness.
Parnel and Mavis were members of Garfield Lutheran Church, where she taught Sunday School for may years and also served for superintendent for several years. She was a member of the women’s organizations and served as an officer many times. She also served two terms on the Lac qui Parle WELCA Conference Board. She was active as a 4-H Leader and a member of an Extension Club and two Birthday Clubs. She also served on the Lac qui Parle Welfare Board for several years.
Her other special interests were in genealogy, writing family histories and other articles. Her garden and flowers were a big part of her life. She gave piano lessons for many years to many children. She also loved to quilt and sew.
Mavis was employed at the Western Guard for many years. She also worked at the Wallace Jackson Law Office.
Mavis is survived by her two daughters, Marie (Bradley) Rude of Granite Falls, MN and Linda (Kenneth) Turnquist of Carver, MN; her grandchildren; Gretchen (Jared) Davies, Sarah Bjornson (Michael) Reed, Keith (Andrea) Turnquist, Cassandra (Jessie David) Smith. Erik Bjornson, Julianne (Tim Lewis) Rude; great-grandchildren, Ellie and Samantha Davies, Odessa and Pearl Turnquist, Maxwell Reed, Dylan David and Clara Lewis. Sisters-in-law Lois Bjornson and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband Parnel, her son Raymond,, two infant daughters, her parents, a daughter-in-law Susan Bjornson, son-in-law Lowell Lee, two brothers and their spouses, George and Maida Cech and Joseph and Ione Cech, three sisters and their spouses Sylvia and Edwin Lundgren, Nellie and Sanford Gorder, Emma amd John Yackley, a niece Leila and her husband, James Wood, three nephews, Duane Gorder, Joseph Cech, Jr., Ronald Gorder and his wife Marianne, Donavon Lundgren and Patricia Bramhall. Also her parents-in-law, Ben and Josephone Bjornson, sister-in-law, Mildred and Edwards Shields and brother-in-law James Bjornson. Blessed be her memory.
