Obituary for Norman Donald Larson

The Zahrbock Funeral Home announces the death of 98 year old Norman (Bill) Larson of Bellingham, who passed away on Tuesday, March 6, 2018 at the Ortonville Hospital in Ortonville, Minnesota. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, March 15, 2018 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Bellingham, MN. Rev. David Hall will officiate at the service.
Burial will be at St. Paul’s Lutheran Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 2:00 - 6:00 p.m., Wednesday, March 14, 2018 at the Zahrbock Funeral Home, Madison. Visitation will continue before the services on Thursday at the church.

Norman (Bill) Donald Larson was born on July 13, 1919 to parents Jens and Lena (Christensen) Larson in Ortonville, MN. He was baptized at his parents home and confirmed his faith at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Bellingham, Minnesota. “Bill” attended public school in District No. 53 of Agassiz Township, Lac qui Parle County near his parents home.
He farmed with his brother Henry for several years. He then entered the U.S. Army on October 7, 1942. He served his country as a Military Policeman in New Guinea, Southern Philippines and Luzon. He was discharged on November 5, 1945. “Bill” returned to the Bellingham area and began to farm. He was united in marriage to Valborg Schake in St. Paul’s Parsonage, Ortonville, MN on June 15, 1946. To this union, “Bill” and Valborg were blessed with four sons.
In his life, he farmed for many years and enjoyed being with his family and friends. He also served his church by serving in different offices, woodworking and was a member of the Bellingham American Legion. He enjoyed going to the café for coffee and he especially enjoyed pie day and shaking dice with his friends.
After they retired from farming in 1983, they moved into a new house in Bellingham.
Valborg passed away on August 12, 2011. Bill lived there until August 2017, when he moved back to farm to live with DeWayne and Gloria. He enjoyed being on the farm again.
Death came to “Bill” on March 6, 2018. He had reached the age of 98 years, 7 months and 23 days.
“Bill is survived by his sons; Norman (Mary) Larson of Casa Grande, AZ; Dennis (Gloria) Larson of Odessa, Minnesota and DeWayne (Gloria) Larson of Odessa, Minnesota; 11 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents Jens and Lena, his wife Valborg, son Norris who died in infancy, grandson Avory Raffety, five brothers, Roy, Kinley, Art, Henry and Alvin and sister Tarna Kluxdahl.
