The Zahrbock Funeral Home announces the death of 54 year old Jeff Olson of rural Madison who passed away on June 8, 2017 at his farm home. Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, June 15, 2017 at Faith Lutheran Church, Madison, MN. Kathleen Soldwisch will officiate at the service. Burial will be in Minnesota Valley Lutheran Cemetery. Visitation will be from 1:00 - 4:00 p.m., Wednesday, June 14, 2017 at the Zahrbock Funeral Home Chapel. Visitation will continue starting at 5:00 - 8:00 p.m. at Faith Lutheran Church. And with a prayer service at 7:00 p.m. at Faith. Visitation will continue before the service on Thursday. Jeffrey Todd Olson was born on October 15, 1962 to parents Lester and Marlys (Krohn) Olson in Madison, Minnesota. He was baptized and confirmed in Minnesota Valley Lutheran Church. Jeff attended school in Madison and graduated in 1981. He then attended college at South Dakota State University in Brookings, SD. He graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Agriculture Education. After college, Jeff returned home to farm with his dad and brother. Jeff was united in marriage to Mary Minor on December 9, 1989 in Brookings, SD. To this union three children were born- Ryan, Michelle & Garrett. In 2000, Jeff joined his dad with the DeKalb Seed dealership. He enjoyed learning about the new techniques in the seed and soil sciences. Jeff was involved with many community activities and held positions on many boards. Jeff loved watching his kids in their sports and other activities. He loved playing baseball, golf, basketball and softball. His greatest love was his family and spending time with them. Another passion of Jeff’s was traveling and learning about people from around the world. On June 8, 2017, Jeff lost his yearlong battle with brain cancer. Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Mary; children Ryan, Michelle and Garrett of Madison; brother Jon (Dawn) Olson of Madison; sister Jackie (Dan) Lemke of Eagle Lake, MN; mother-in-law Lavonne Minor of Brookings, SD; brothers-in-law Alan (Linda) Minor, Scott (Sherri) Minor, James Minor, Steven (Tammy) Minor, Lance (Lisa) Minor all from Brookings, SD, Gary (Marla) Minor of Houston, TX; sisters-in-law Valerie Minor of Brookings, SD and Sherry Moore of Maple Grove, MN; many nieces and nephews; aunt Julie Roe of Bismarck, ND; aunt Mona Olson of St. Louis, MO and uncle Donald Duncan of Edina, MN. He was preceded in death by parents Lester and Marlys Olson, his grandparents, several aunts and uncles, nephew Dustin Lemke and father-in-law Loyd Minor. Blessed be his memory.

I am sshocked and so so sorry to hear of his death.  He is the son of my mother's (Marion Petersn) cousin Lester.  The Olson family has always been so dear to our family.  We had gotten together for yearly Olson family reunions and enjoyed the whole Olson family.  He will be missed. I'm so very sorry to hear of Jeff's passing--I knew him from high school and he was a very sweet guy.   My thoughts are with you and your family at this difficult time.  I lost my father when he was about Jeff's age, so I know this is a really tough time for you.

My thoughts and prayers are with your whole family.  I did not know Jeff was sick until I saw his obituary this morning.  I am so sorry for your loss.  I have such good memories of what a faithful and kind person he was even as a high schooler.  I met him when our youth groups traveled to the National Youth Gathering in high school.  May God give you peace and strength for the coming days.  Sally (Olson) Hanson
